Shaheedi Jor Mela, Fatehgarh Sahib ਸ਼ਹੀਦੀ ਜੋੜ ਮੇਲਾ
Every December, the sangat gathers at Sri Fatehgarh Sahib to remember the martyrdom of the younger Sahibzade, Baba Zorawar Singh Ji and Baba Fateh Singh Ji, and of Mata Gujri Ji.

How the date is fixed
The mela runs over three days ending on 13 Poh, which falls on 27 or 28 December. The SGPC calendar places the martyrdom on 13 Poh.
What happened
After leaving Anandpur Sahib in December 1704, Guru Gobind Singh Ji's family was separated at the Sarsa river. Mata Gujri Ji and the two younger sons, aged nine and six, were handed over to Wazir Khan, the governor of Sirhind. They were held in the cold tower, the Thanda Burj. The boys refused to give up their faith and were bricked up alive and then executed. Mata Gujri Ji died in the Thanda Burj on the same day.
Remembrance
The Shaheedi week, from 20 to 28 December, is observed with restraint across Punjab. Many families sleep on the floor and avoid celebrations. Langars along the highways serve travellers heading to Fatehgarh Sahib.
Gurdwara Jyoti Sarup marks the site where the cremation took place. The land for it was bought by Diwan Todar Mal by covering it with gold coins.
