The month of Chet
Chet opens the Nanakshahi year in mid-March. Winter has gone, the mustard has been cut and the wheat is turning gold in the fields. Days are mild and the first heat of spring arrives by the end of the month.
Chet in the Barah Maha
On Sangrand, gurdwaras hold a special diwan where the verse for the new month from Guru Arjan Dev Ji's Barah Maha in Raag Majh is read. The verse for Chet calls on the listener to remember Govind, the Lord, in this month, for in that remembrance lies deep joy. The month that begins the year begins the Barah Maha too.
