The month of Harh
Harh is the peak of summer, with pre-monsoon storms towards its end. Paddy transplanting begins across Punjab once the government-notified date arrives in June, and chhabeel stalls serving sweet water line the roads around the Shaheedi Purab of Guru Arjan Dev Ji.
Harh in the Barah Maha
On Sangrand, gurdwaras hold a special diwan where the verse for the new month from Guru Arjan Dev Ji's Barah Maha in Raag Majh is read. The Harh verse compares the burning heat to the pain of the soul that keeps the Lord far away, and points to the cool shade of His Name.
