The month of Assu
Assu sees the monsoon withdraw and the nights grow cooler. Paddy ripens, and the festival season begins with Dussehra and Valmiki Jayanti, often falling in this month.
Assu in the Barah Maha
On Sangrand, gurdwaras hold a special diwan where the verse for the new month from Guru Arjan Dev Ji's Barah Maha in Raag Majh is read. The Assu verse is full of longing: the soul is eager to meet the Lord, and asks how it can go to Him, finding the way through the saints.
